Annual Residential
Our five day annual
residential takes place during the first weekend of the summer school
holidays. Residentials are open to all members and leaders as
well as our friends from Soham Brigade. Our residential is a wonderful
opportunity for members to try new and varied activities, learn new
skills and make new friends. We visit a different site each year and
endeavour to cater for a range of interests.
A typical residential
programme includes organised outdoor activities such as: archery, high
ropes, sailing, canoeing and orienteering (the list goes on) and trips
to sights of interest close to the site, examples include: The Big Pit
in South Wales, guided tours and beach trips. Not only do we take part
in activities and trips during the day, we run games, sports, crafts and
‘Grill the Vicar’ sessions in the evenings, allowing the opportunity for
our members to ask our Reverend and leader, Kathryn Waite, any
questions they may have about God, Christianity and life in general.
We are fortunate to be
joined by a fully qualified (and talented) chef who prepares lovely
meals for us
(a highlight for many attendees!). Our programme would not be the same without the special
‘SYG formal dinner’ and ‘Camp Concert’
whereby members and leaders can showcase any hidden talents or hobbies they may have.
Our annual residentials
are a very special and integral part of SYG. We encourage everyone in SYG to come along and see for themselves what we offer. SYG prides
itself on providing “opportunities for young people” and this is what an SYG residential is all about.

We always aim to keep costs to a minimum
and use our own income to help reduce the overall cost to members. We
also apply for grants to help us further reduce the cost so this
opportunity is available to all our members independent of financial
means. Our thanks to grant providers such as Cambridge Community
Foundation, John Huntingdon Charity, South Cambridge District Council
and Stansted Airport Community Fund.
Residential Photos
As you can see
here, we have visited quite a few sites over the past
20
years and taken a fair few pictures. Take a peek as we have captured
some wonderful residential moments.
